AR #6 Sample Digital Story - My Not So Scary Halloween

MY NOT SO SCARY HALLOWEEN
Our Digital Story Project

This week in my technology class we were asked to design an example of our digital story we created in our curriculum page. As I began this journey I started with a simple idea, not realizing how much would go into this procedure. I eventually found that I needed to re look into the real life factor of this project and had to revamp all of my original ideas. I love that I learned so much through this process. I realized by making this sample how much work and step by step procedure would go into the students creating a story. I decided to change from kidspiration to prezi, being that it was a more simple process and kindergarteners would follow easier with that program. I also found that this would be a better whole group project, and I would do this as a class digital story with their ideas all put into it. My sample would just give them an idea of what a digital story looks like and would help them guide me to creating our class story about our Not so Scary Halloween. I embedded the sample below for you to view as well. Enjoy :)

  1. I really liked your digital story. I think what I liked most about it was the fact that this is something a kindergarten student could actually make. It was simple, with only a few sentences and a few pictures. This was something that the students would think was fun, while they got to learn how to use this form of technology. And it is something they can personally relate to.

I also think this would be a great way to have parent involvement in a project. (If you have parents willing to participate.) This is something that wouldn't take long for them, and it would be a great activity for them to do together. Then the kids would love to watch them together one day in class.

  2. This looks like a really fun project and i really enjoyed your example. Prezi always impresses me. I have not yet made a project using Prezi, but every time i see an example it impresses me. Is this a project for kindergarten students? I could see how getting them to create on of these projects may be a challenge. I might incorporate less on the sentence and wording side and maybe take a route based more on voice over and narration. I am sure they would have a blast doing that!

  3. I love this digital storytelling project. It seems like it is going to be a fun and engaging activity for your students. It is a simple activity to help teach younger students how to use technology and practice their writing skills.

I agree with you when you said that Kidspiration may have been too much for Kindergarten students and that this would be a better whole group activity. This is an activity that I want to use with my students in the future.

  4. I think you did a great job with this project. By actually creating it you learned that what you had planned would not work the way you envisioned. This exercise gave you time to change your plan and create a finished project that your students could accomplish. I am sure the the kindergartners were proud of the completed class project. It would be a great start to a year long DVD that you could give them, with all their technology projects, at the end of the year.

  5. Maggie,

I really enjoyed viewing your digital story! How did you like using the Prezi platform? I have never used Prezi before, but after seeing all of the wonderful presentation examples of students in this EME class, I definately think that it is a very interesting presentation platform! I love your idea of creating a whole class story of a not so scary Halloween. I would love to see some real student work for this idea!

I can completely relate when you mention how you had to completely revamp your initial project idea once you actually sat down to create your own presentation. I found myself chaning many different aspects of this presentation. This is definately an important thing to keep in mind when we come up with new project ideas for our students.

  6. Yeah! I am so glad you took a second look into the project As a working teacher, I can tell you creating this whole group or even creating several but in a small group setting will be so much easier for you when you are by yourself. I have found myself, through this class, creating these grandiose ideas and get all caught up in the possibilities. Then the next morning I walk into my classroom and find it more difficult that I originally thought it would be to implement my plan.
I know Kindergarten poses a huge challenge. But you are going to be great when you have your own class!
